ABSTRACT
Childbirth is a series of events that end with the expulsion of the baby at term or
near term, followed by the expulsion of the placenta and fetal membranes from the baby's
body. The maternal mortality rate (MMR) worldwide is estimated at 216/100,000 live
births. The coverage of delivery assistance for health workers showed an increasing trend,
namely 79.2% of pregnant women who gave birth. Infant mortality rate (IMR) reaching
the age of 1 year is expressed in 1,000 live births. The number of babies who died was
1,132 babies before the age of 1 year. The estimated IMR in North Sumatra in 2016 is
4/1,000 live births. The purpose of the study was to improve students' ability to handle
