Narrative text
a. Pengertian
Teks narrative adalah teks yang menceritakan sesuatu yang
imajinatif atau khayalan belaka. Tujuannya untuk menghiur
pembaca.
b. Srtuktur teks narrative
- Orientation (pendahuluan cerita): memperkenalkan tokoh-
tokoh dalam cerita,latar, dan waktu
- Complication : munculnya permasalahan di antara tokoh-tokoh
tersebut
- Resolution : pemecahan masalah
- Re-orientationsakhir sebuah cerita
- Coda : pesan yang disampaikan.
c. Karakteristik
- Menggunakan past simple
- Menggunakan adverbial of time, misalnya long time ago, once
upen a time, etc
- Menggunakan conjunction seperti then, before,after,etc
d. Contoh
Orientation
Little Mantu lived in a village deep in the jungle where elephants helped the
men with their work. These elephants were so big and stong. They could lift up
the heavisiest logs with their trunks and toss them high in the air.
Complications
Now, Mantu had an elephant of his very own. His name Opie. He was just a
baby and Mantu loved him very much. Mantu whispered to Opie’s ear that
someday he would because the biggest, strongest, and bravest elephant in the
jungle. The other elephants heard this. They began to laught and made rude noises
with their trunks. “ we’re so big and tall, but you’r so small, you’re nothing at all,
“said one of the big elephants.
Mantu looked up at the huge, elephant with a mischievous glint in his eye.
“you’re so tall and can see far away. We can see any slithering snakes that may be
a danger.” After hearing the words snakes, the elephants screeched and off they
gwents thundering in fright.
Resolution
“ Did I say there were snakes?” giggle Mantu. “no, I don’t think so,” smiled
Opie. Mantu then climbep upon this little friend’s back and went home to the
village to tell everyone about the foolist elephants.

Eldest sister : Hi, brother. Why do you look so bored?
Brother : There is no good television program
Eldest sister : Come here! I will tell you story. Its title is a Little Rabbit and
Crocodile.
Brother : Really,Sister?
Eldest sister : Listen to me carefully! A little rabbit wanted to find some food in
a forest. But unfortunately he found a big river so that he couldn’t
cross to another side. The rabbit looked around. He got surprised
when he saw a huge crocodile floating on the river. The
crocodile’s eyes watched him out. “Aha!” the litt;e rabbit smiled.
He suddenly got an idea. “Hello, my lord crocodile! Would you
please come here,” he shouted. Hearing the rabbit called him, the
crocodile swam closer. “ Hmm, what’s up?” “ I know you’re
hungry. I’m bringing some food for you and your entire friend.
You know it’s a big cow. I think it would make you so satisfied,”
the rabbit said.” Really? Where is it?” the crocodile said. “ It’s in
the back of the tree,” the rabbit pointed out the treebehind him.
“I’ll give you, but I must know how many crocodiles are here.
Could you call your friend to come?” the crocodile looked happy.
Then he called hos friends. After a while 20 crocodiles had come.
“ Ok. Now please stay in line. I’m going to count your number,”
said the rabbit. All crocodiles moved and made a row. A moment
later the big was covered by crocodiles waiting some count. “
One,…two…three,…” the rabbit counted by jumped to the first
crocodile’s back. He bagan to by one, “nineteen,twenty.” After
stepping the last crocodile, the rabbit jumped into the river bank
and ran into the forest. Then he laughed and shouted, “Stupid!”
Brother : What a smart rabbit he is!
Eldest sister : Yes, he is. We must think smart whenever we go, but don’t let
someone make us fool.
Brother : Yes sister. I know. I feel asleep. I want to go to bed.
Eldest sister : Okay.
