Puji syukur ke hadirat Allah SWT, atas karunia-Nya penulis dapat


menyelesaikan modul pembelajaran ini. Modul pembelajaran ini dibuat
secara ringkas dan lengkap dengan harapan dapat mempermudah
pengguna modul dalam memahami materi pembelajaran descriptive text.
Modul pembelajaran yang disusun ini diharapkan mampu membantu
pengguna modul dalam memahami descriptive text, modul pembelajaran ini
mampu memberikan variasi atau model pembelajaran bagi guru pengampu
mata pelajaran, agar pengguna modul dapat menjadi lebih aktif dalam
berdiskusi dan memiliki gambaran terkait descriptive text yang diajarkan
dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris.
Modul pembelajaran yang dikembangkan ini masih jauh dari
sempurna, untuk itu diperlukan perbaikan secara berkelanjutan agar
susunan materi dapat menyesuaikan kebutuhan siswa. Kritik dan saran
akan sangat membantu dalam proses pengembangan modul pembelajaran

unsur bahasa dari berbagai ungkapan mengenai memberi dan meminta informasi pendek
dan sederhana terkait benda sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya dengan teliti.
4.4.1 Melalui praktek siswa dapat menyusun teks lisan dan tertulis mengenai memberi dan
meminta informasi pendek dan sederhana terkait benda sesuai dengan konteks
penggunaannya dengan percaya diri.
4.4.2 Melalui praktek siswa dapat mempresentasikann secara lisan dan tulis memberi dan
meminta informasi pendek dan sederhana terkait orang, benda dengan menggunakan

Descriptive Text
 Definition of Descriptive Text
What is descriptive text? Descriptive Text is a text which tells us what a person or a thing is like.
 The Purpose of Descriptive Text
Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

 Social Function
To give:
a. a visual picture of a thing by explaining its features, forms, types,
location, or anything.
b. information about a particular entity by describing its features, history,
and special characteristics
c. information about things by describing physical attributes, behaviors,

 The Characteristic of Descriptive Text
 Using attribute verb, such as (am, is, are)
 Using simple present tense
 Focused on one subject/thing
 Generic Structures of Descriptive Text
1. Identification
In this part identification contains about the general introduction of a
person, place, animal or object will be described
The function of identification is to introduce something we describe,
in order, the reader and listener are not miss-understanding.
2. Description
It contains a description of something such as animal, things, place, or
person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to
what the writer describes.
 Language Features of Descriptive Text
 Noun: uses specific nouns: my cat, my boyfriend, National Monument,
instead, we usually also use adjective to specify the noun: a big house,
a smart student, an independence woman.
 Simple present tense: use base form of verbs (verb 1). Descriptive text
uses simple present tense because descriptive text states a fact. For
example, my school has 22 classes, Bandung is situated in West Java,
etc.
 Figurative language: use figurative language to illustrate
something. Example:
 My love for you is as big as the ocean.
 Her skin is as white as the snow.
 Focus on specific participants as the main character;
 Use linking verbs or relational process frequently (is, are, has, have,
belongs to) in order to classify and describe appearance or qualities
and parts or functions of phenomena;
 Use action verbs or material process and behavioural process in
giving additional description regarding action and behaviour done by
the participants in text; sleep, walk, sing, dance, etc.
 Use mental verb or mental process when describing feelings;
 Use nominal group frequently to describe;
 Use adjective and adverbs to add information to nouns and add
information to verbs to provide more detailed description about the
topic;
 Use adverbial phrases to add more information about manner, place,
or time and sometimes realized inembedded clause which functions
as circumstances

My Blue Laptop

I have a new laptop. It is from my father. It is a birthday present . This is the update
product from Lenovo. It is Lenovo ThinkPad T 14 i7.

The laptop is blue. It is nice laptop. The performance of this laptop is great. I can play
games, play music, watch movies and draw using it. This laptop is very fast. I don’t need
to wait for a long time when I am opening the applications. The laptop has high quality. It
is very expensive. It’s Rp. 25.000.000. The weakness is easy to get warm. We have to use
the coolpad.
I really like this new laptop because it is useful and helpful to me in various situations.

 Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like.


 Descriptive text’s purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
 Generic Structure of Descriptive Text:
a. Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be
described.)
b. Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person
by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describes.

 Language Feature of Descriptive Text:


– Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). for example:
Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim
– The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, a
handsome man, the famous place in Jepara, etc.
– The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it
tells the fact of the object described.
– Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc.)
