 Comparison Degree

Degree of Comparison digunakan ketika kita

membandingkan sesuatu dengan yang lain dan
hanya digunakan untuk adjective (kata sifat) dan
adverb (kata keterangan).

(Perlu diingat, comparison degree tidak

menggunakan kata kerja (verb). Comparison
degree hanya menggunakan kata sifat (adjective)
dan kata keterangan (adverb) saja.
 Tingkatan Comparison Degree

• Ada tiga tingkatan dalam degree of

comparison, yaitu :

Positive Degree

Comparative Degree

Superlative Degree
 Positive Degree
• Pola perbandingan ini digunakan saat kita hendak
menunjukkan bahwa kedua benda/orang/grup
itu setara/ sama.

“____ as Adjective/Adverb as ____"

• She is as beautiful as her sister. Dia (pr) secantik kakaknya

• John is as tall as James John setinggi James
• I want to be as strong as Dwayne Johnson
Saya ingin menjadi sekuat Dwayne Johnson
 Comparative Degree

• Comparative degree adalah membandingkan

dua hal dimana yang satu lebih daripada yang
lain.
• Mudahnya, makna yang dihasilkan dari bentuk
comparative adalah "lebih ___ daripada ___".

____to be + adjective(er) + than_____

Adjective+er digunakan ketika adjective hanya terdiri

dari satu suku kata.
Contoh: smarter, taller, shorter, bigger
(Jika adjective-nya berakhiran satu huruf mati seperti big, maka huruf
terakhir digandakan bigger)
• Dave is bigger than his friend Dave lebih besar dari
temannya
• You are taller than Gigi Kamu lebih tinggi daripada Gigi

More +Adjective digunakan ketika adjective terdiri dari

dua suku kata atau lebih.
Contoh : more expensive, more beautiful, more comfortable,
more responsible.
• Selena is more beautiful than Hailey Selena lebih cantik
dari Hailey
• Hermes bags are more expensive than Gucci Tas Hermes
lebih mahal dari tas Gucci
 Superlative Degree

• Superlative degree adalah membandingkan

tiga hal atau lebih, dimana salah satunya
paling dominan daripada yang lain.
• Makna yang dihasilkan dari bentuk superlative
adalah "paling" atau "ter-".

Adjective+est digunakan ketika adjective hanya terdiri dari satu

suku kata.
Contoh: the smartest, the tallest, the shortest, the biggest
(Kata the harus selalu ada dalam superlative degree, )
• James is the best student in his class James adalah siswa
terbaik di kelasnya
• Gigi is tall. Kendall is tall. But Taylor is the tallest of them. Gigi
tinggi. Kendall tinggi. Tapi Taylor adalah yang tertinggi diantara
mereka
 Superlative Degree

____+ most + adjective + of/in/among__

Most +Adjective digunakan ketika adjective terdiri dari

dua suku kata atau lebih.
Contoh : the most expensive, the most beautiful, the most
comfortable, the most responsible.
• Lisa is the most beautiful among her friends. Lisa adalah
yang paling catik diantara teman-temannya
• I am the happiest woman in the world Saya wanita yang
paling bahagia di dunia
 Adjective 1 atau 2 suku kata

Contoh kalimat comparative degree
menggunakan adverb:
• You speak more loudly than a loudspeaker.
• Sirius shines more brightly than all the other
stars.
• The teacher spoke more slowly to help us to
understand.
• Could you sing more quietly please?
Contoh kalimat superlative degree menggunakan
adverb:
• He arrived the earliest, so he had to wait for
the others.
• Why do you have to speak the most loudly of
all at the meeting?
• Of all the girls, your sister sang the most
sweetly.
