Flu (Hangul: 감기 ; RR: Gamgi) adalah sebuah film bencana Korea

Selatan 2013 yang ditulis dan disutradarai oleh Kim Sung-su, tentang
tentang wabah virus H5N1 yang mematikan yang membunuh korbannya
dalam waktu 36 jam, virus itu tidak dapat ditangani setelah seorang pria
yang terinfeksi melarikan diri ke kota sehingga virusnya menyebar. Hal
tersebut membuat distrik Bundang di Seongnam, yang memiliki populasi
hampir setengah juta orang, menjadi kacau. Film tersebut dibintangi oleh
Jang Hyuk dan Soo Ae.
 Alur Cerita The Flu
Film ini dimulai dengan sekelompok imigran gelap yg diselendupkan dalam sebuah
kapal kontainer dengan tujuan akhir Korea Selatan, namun ternyata salah satu imigran
gelap tersebut membawa wabah penyakit/virus menular dan mematikan sehingga
semua imigran yang berada di dalam kontainer tertular virus mematikan. Byung-Ki
dan Byoung-Woo pergi ke tempat pengiriman untuk membebaskan para imigran
tersebut, namun menemukan bahwa semua imigran mati, kecuali satu orang. Tak lama
kemudian, setiap jam ribuan orang terinfeksi oleh virus mematikan, yang membunuh
dalam 36 jam infeksi. Seluruh pinggiran Bundang dikarantina oleh pemerintah dalam
upaya putus asa untuk menghentikan penyebaran virus lebih jauh. Kemudian seorang
petugas pemadam kebakaran Kang Ji-Koo dan Dokter Kim In-Hae bekerja sama dalam
perlombaan melawan waktu untuk menemukan obatnya. Sementara itu, ada salah satu
orang yang bernama Monssai yang diketahui kebal terhadap virus sehingga ia diduga
bisa menjadi obat untuk orang-orang yang telah terinfeksi. Kim In Hae berusaha
mencari Monssai sebagai pengobatan virus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa virus
berbahaya tersebut adalah H5N1 yang kemudian dapat menyebar dengan mudah
kepada orang lain.
 Virus H5N1
Virus H5N1 adalah bentuk flu burung yang paling umum. Virus ini mematikan bagi unggas dan dapat
menginfeksi manusia dan hewan lain melalui kontak langsung. H5N1 merupakan salah satu
subtipe virus influenza A yang menyebabkan penyakit, flu burung. Virus influenza A memiliki
beberapa protein pada permukaannya, di antaranya protein hemaglutinin (disingkat H atau HA)
serta protein neuraminidase (disingkat NA atau N). Kombinasi jenis protein H dan protein N akan
menentukan sifat virus dan penamaan subtipe virus influenza.
Virus H5N1 menimbulkan penyakit pada banyak spesies vertebrata, termasuk manusia, dan
berpeluang menjadi pandemi influenza. Para ahli mengkhawatirkan bahwa H5N1 dapat bermutasi
menjadi bentuk yang dapat menular dengan mudah dari manusia ke manusia, meskipun sampai
sekarang belum ada kejadian kuat yang mendukung kekhawatiran itu. H5N1 dianggap sebagai
penyakit yang disebabkan oleh unggas, namun terdapat beberapa bukti terkait terbatasnya
penularan virus dari manusia ke manusia. Faktor risiko tertularnya virus adalah dengan
penanganan unggas yang terinfeksi, tetapi penularan virus dari unggas yang terinfeksi ke manusia
dinyatakan tidak efisien.
 Kaitan Film The Flu dengan Farmasi
Dengan adanya kemunculan virus H5N1, membuat pihak pemerintah Bundang terpaksa untuk segera
melakukan karantina wilayah. Yang pada akhirnya terjadi kepanikan massal yang tak bisa dihindari.
Banyak orang panik dengan kemunculan virus mematikan tersebut. Sementara itu, Dr. Kim In Hae
sempat kehilangan putrinya, Mi Reu, di tengah kekacauan akibat virus. Tidak lama setelah itu saat akan
pergi ke Seoul ada pemeriksaan oleh tim medis supaya memastikan bahwa semuanya dalam keadaan
baik. Namun, Mi Reu menunjukkan gejala terpapar virus, yang akhirnya menyebabkan mereka tidak bisa
pergi dari Bundang. In Hae pun mati-matian menyelamatkan putrinya yang kondisinya semakin
melemah. Di pihak lain, Monssai digadang-gadang bisa jadi penyelamat dari wabah ini. Karena satu-
satunya imigran gelap yang selamat dari virus itu dan dapat bertahan hidup. Monssai diketahui memiliki
antibodi untuk melawan virus ini. Lalu akhirnya In Hae diam-diam membawa Mi Reu ke tenda tim medis
untuk di suntikan antibodi yang berasal dari darah Monssai. Akhirnya, In Hae berhasil menyuntikannya
kepada putrinya, namun di sisi lain antibodi tersebut belum diketahui apakah berhasil atau tidak untuk
sembuh dari virus yang berhaya ini. Kemudian Mi Reu akhirnya membaik dan sembuh dari virus karena
suntikan antibodi yang berasal dari darah Monssai. Itulah yang membuat In Hae berpikir bahwa anaknya
memiliki antibodi yang sama dengan Monssai, karena Monssai sudah tidak tertolong lagi nyawa, maka
antibodi untuk membuat obat virus ini dapat di ambil dari darah Mi Reu. Pada akhir film tim medis datang
membawa Mi Reu untuk melakukan tes darah. Setelah terkonfirmasi bahwa Mi Reu adalah pemilik
antibodi, pemerintah langsung melakukan riset dan memproduksi antibodi. Dan antibodi tersebut di
prioritaskan untuk membantu pengobatan warga Bundang.
